ABOUT JUSTIN LEE

Pianist JUSTIN LEE is 22 years old and is from Walnut, California. He is a graduate from the University of Redlands, receiving a double degree in performance and mathematics. Justin has received numerous prizes for piano competitions, including the 1st place winner of 2019 CAPMT Honors and Contemporary Competition District 4 and Inland Empire Piano Festival (2018). Throughout all five semesters at Redlands, Justin has been in the Dean’s List for outstanding academic achievement. Justin began playing piano at the age of six through the Yamaha School of Music Program. At the age of eleven, Justin began private lessons with teacher Anne Bader, a graduate from St. Petersburg Conservatory. With her, Justin began to grow rapidly as a musician. During high school, he received the second prize at the American Protégé International Competition of Romantic Music in 2014. He performed the Rachmaninoff Six moments Musicaux Op. 16 No. 4 in Carnegie Hall at New York, and this experienced sparked his passion for piano performance. Since becoming a University of Redlands student in the 2017, Justin has grown tremendously as a musician under the guidance of Professor Louanne Long. As a pianist, he has not only performed solo works, but also played and worked with living composers; played in a chamber group; and accompanied soloists, choirs, and a band. His experience has also been filled with masterclasses from expert musicians. He has had the privilege to study in masterclasses alongside performers Eva Polgar, Drew Petersen, and Anne MacDermott.

He is also involved in the U.S. honorary national mathematics society Pi Mu Epsilon. Furthermore, Justin is the treasurer of Asian Student Association and aids in the club’s goal towards campus diversity and inclusivity. Justin will continue studying applied and computational math at Claremont Graduate University.
